Takashi Miike Revisited (#6) I feel this was an ideal segue into revisiting some of Miike’s more toned down films. It's still as violent, goofy and over the top as the previous films I've revisited, but what I feel makes Dead or Alive 2 transcend those is that despite being another insane Yakuza film from the King of Insane Yakuza Films, there is a lot of heart here, and despite its bleak Beginning with an explosive, six-minute montage of sex, drugs and violence, and ending with a phallus-headed battle robot taking flight, Takashi Miike's unforgettable Dead or Alive Trilogy features many of the director's most outrageous moments set alongside some of his most dramatically moving scenes.

Dead Or Alive is not one of director Takashi Miike's best movies, but it is great fun. The story is basically cops vs gangsters, with the added wrinkle of yakuza vs triads. The middle hour or so of the movie is pretty standard fare for the most part, but the beginning and ending are bugf**k.

The atmosphere of the movie is also very different from the first DEAD OR ALIVE. A lot less hysterical editings and non-stop action sequences in this film clearly divided in three parts.
